Volunteers are putting new plants into the bed on the grounds of the Monroe County historic courthouse. The work is prompted in part by storm damage, which [took out an oak tree in August 2025](https://bsquarebulletin.com/6th-street-walnut-street-9/). The planting is funded in part by a $1,500 grant from the Monroe County Master Gardeners. In addition to replacing damaged plants, the new scheme uses a different mix of sun-tolerant species for the bed, which is now out of the shade of the oak tree.
