Yesterday I underwent emergency surgery for a detached retina. The procedure went well, and I’m on the road to recovery. But part of the post-operative protocol means no reading—no screens, no books, no documents. That restriction makes it effectively impossible for me to write or report in the usual way.

The B Square Bulletin is a one-person operation, and that person is currently grounded. I’ll be doing what I can to figure out a minimal workflow that allows some level of ongoing reporting, but for now, things will slow down considerably. It looks like this reduced capacity will last several days, and I appreciate your patience as I work through it.

This is not how I wanted to test the limits of a solo newsroom. But it does underscore why I’ve been working to grow this into something bigger—something that doesn’t grind to a halt when one person gets sidelined. Local news should not hinge on the health of a single set of eyes.

If you've followed The B Square Bulletin for any length of time, you know I try to keep things steady and clear-eyed—literally and figuratively. That won’t change, even if the pace of coverage does for a little while. I’m exploring ways to delegate or adapt in the short term, and I’ll share updates as I figure out what’s possible.

Thank you to everyone who has offered support, encouragement, or simply clicked through to read. I’m grateful to be part of a community that values local news. I plan to be back at full speed—one eye at a time.
