# Photos: Bloomington Speedway revs back to life

On Friday night (May 9), owners, supporters, and workers celebrated the reopening of [Bloomington Speedway](https://www.historicbloomingtonspeedway.com/). The track first opened in 1923 and has recently undergone a major renovation. Well-known local tenor, Rusty Shields, sang the national anthem. One of the racers was 24-year-old Ashton Thompson of Salem, Indiana. She’s been racing since she was six.
