Ryan Pedigo has been named deputy chief of the Bloomington Police Department, moving up from his position as captain of administration, which he has held since 2019\. The appointment was announced Tuesday (Oct. 13) in a [news release](https://bloomdocs.org/wp-content/uploads/simple-file-list/2026-10-13-pedigo-named-deputy-chief.pdf).

Pedigo has 24 years of law enforcement experience, including 19 with Bloomington police, according to the release. Pedigo will continue for now as the department’s public information officer, which includes conducting the daily 11 a.m. briefings for members of the press, Pedigo confirmed to The B Square.

According to the release, Pedigo’s previous responsibilities have included recruitment and hiring, emergency dispatch, records, mental health professionals and departmental accreditation. He led the department’s effort to achieve national accreditation in 2018, a status that has been maintained through subsequent reviews.

Police chief Mike Diekhoff is quoted in the news release saying, “Ryan understands this department from the ground up and has demonstrated the judgment, discipline, and leadership required to move it forward.”

Pedigo replaces Scott Oldham in the position of deputy chief, who has served in that role for the last four years, [starting in August 2022](https://www.facebook.com/BloomingtonPolice/posts/several-promotion-processes-have-been-underway-at-bpd-after-the-recent-retiremen/430386002460291/). Responding to a question from The B Square, Diekhoff said Oldham requested a return to his last permanent rank of lieutenant, allowing him to resume more direct involvement in day-to-day police operations. Oldham’s shift assignment has not yet been determined, Diekhoff said.
