Bloomington police seek leads in early morning central Bloomington shooting

A 42-year-old man was shot in the chest a little after midnight in central Bloomington, on Monday, July 11, according to a police news release issued just after noon on Tuesday.

Police are asking anyone with information about the 1 a.m. shooting on the 400 block of South Walnut Street to call BPD detective Blake McCamey at 812-339-4477.

According to the news release a caller reported hearing a single gunshot followed by a man yelling for help. Responding officers found the man with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Officers provided care until he was taken by ambulance to IU Health’s Bloomington hospital, according to the news release.

Before the man was flown to Indianapolis for further treatment, he told police that a vehicle had pulled up next to him as he was walking. Occupants of the vehicle started arguing with him. He said that two people inside the vehicle brandished handguns and one of them fired once, hitting him in the chest, according to the news release.
