2019 Bloomington General | District 3 Council Candidate: Nick Kappas

Nick Kappas collected at least 89 signatures to qualify as an independent candidate to represent District 3 on the Bloomington city council. He faces Democratic Party nominee Ron Smith and independent Marty Spechler in the Nov. 5 general election. The incumbent Democrat, Allison Chopra, is not seeking re-election.

District 3 covers portions of Bloomington’s northeast and east sides. (Click here for a map of city districts.)
Kappas works for Cook Medical.
His campaign website presents a four-point platform: infrastructure repair; east-side development; environmental sustainability and governmental efficiency.
In connection with the topic of development, Kappas cites his experience as a current member of Bloomington’s plan commission and zoning board of appeals.
Kappas earned a bachelor’s degree in science from IU-SPEA in policy analysis in 2010. Four years later he earned a master’s degree in public affairs from IUPUI-SPEA.
Kappas is married to Sophia Percival, who is employed by Catalent Biopharma Solutions.
Kappas is serving as his own campaign chair and treasurer.
