2019 Bloomington Primary|Council Candidate District 1: Denise Valkyrie

Outcome: Kate Rosenbarger won the Democratic Party primary for District 1 with 619 votes (65.92%), compared to 264 votes (28.12%) for Chris Sturbaum and 56 votes (5.96%) for Denise Valkyrie. Full results here.
Denise Valkyrie is running for a four-year term on the Bloomington Common Council in District 1. She faces incumbent Chris Sturbaum and Kate Rosenbarger in the May 7, 2019 Democratic Party primary. No Republicans will appear on the primary ballot for this district.

District 1 covers portions of Bloomington’s west and south sides. (Click here for a map of city districts.)
According to a report in the Herald-Times, Vlakyrie’s priorities include access to health care, affordable housing and funding for public schools.
Valkyrie is an administrative coordinator at WTIU/WFIU. She is also working on an undergraduate degree in liberal studies at Indiana University.
She has served as president of the Broadview Neighborhood Association, and is a precinct chair for the Monroe County Democratic Party Central Committee. She also was an organizer for the Indiana contingent of the 2017 Women’s March in Washington, D.C.
She is married to Tom Valkyrie and has four children. She is serving as her own campaign chair and treasurer.
