2019 Bloomington Primary|Council Candidate District 2: Dorothy Granger
Outcome: Sue Sgambelluri won the Democratic Party primary for District 2 with 157 votes (42.09 percent), compared to 142 votes (38.07 percent) for Dorothy Granger and 74 votes (19.84 percent) for Daniel Bingham. [Full results here]
Dorothy Granger is running for re-election to a four-year term on the Bloomington Common Council in District 2. She faces Daniel Bingham and Sue Sgambelluri in the May 7, 2019 Democratic Party primary. The winner of that race will run against Republican Andrew Guenther in the Nov. 5 general election. Guenther is unopposed in the May primary.
District 2 covers portions of Bloomington’s north and northwest sides. (Click here for a map of city districts.)
Granger is running for a third term on council. She was first elected in 2011, and re-elected in 2015. She currently is the council’s vice president, and served as its president last year.
She told the Herald-Times that her priorities include focusing on basic services, funding an American Sign Language interpreter for council meetings, creating a community gateway, and restoring tree buffers on the 45/46 Bypass.
Granger is development director for the Shalom Community Center, which provides services for people experiencing homelessness and poverty. She previously has served as development director for WFHB, and as communications and special events coordinator for Middle Way House. She was executive director of Girls Inc. of Monroe County from 2002 to 2006.
Granger has a bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University and a Ph.D. in human and organizational systems from Fielding Graduate University.
