Dave Rollo is seeking re-election for a fifth four-year term on the Bloomington Common Council in District 4. He faces Miah Michaelsen in the May 7, 2019 Democratic Party primary. No Republicans will appear on the primary ballot in this district.

District 4 covers parts of east and southeast Bloomington. (Click here for a map of city districts.)
Rollo is a partner in Stranger’s Hill Organics, an organic farm located about six miles west of downtown Bloomington. First elected to council in 2003, he is the current council president and previously held that role in 2015 and 2007.
During his council tenure Rollo has co-authored the city’s “green building” ordinance and served on several city advisory groups, including the Commission on Sustainability, the Sidewalk Committee, and the Economic Development Commission.
In 2012, Rollo chaired the Bloomington-Monroe County Deer Task Force, which recommended culling deer at the Griffy Lake Nature Preserve. That stance contributed to a tight re-election bid in 2015, when Rollo narrowly defeated Philippa Guthrie in that year’s Democratic Party primary.
In 2005 Rollo co-founded Bloomingpeak, a local peak oil awareness group. In 2007 he sponsored a resolution creating a peak oil task force for the city, which filed a final report in 2009.
A native of the Detroit area, Rollo earned an undergraduate degree in biology from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in plant sciences from Indiana University.
Rollo is married to Heather Reynolds, an associate professor of biology at Indiana University. She is Rollo’s campaign treasurer. He is serving as his own campaign chair.
