Alea iacta est: June 2, 2020 election Monroe County results, when served
Here’s where The Square Beacon will post incremental results from the June 2, 2020 primary election, as they become available directly from the Monroe County clerk’s office, in reverse chronological order.
When the polls closed at 6 p.m. there were still 18 people standing in line to vote outside Bloomington city hall. They were, of course, allowed to vote.
At 7 p.m. Monroe County clerk Nicole Brown sent out an email saying 7,041 voters turned out on Election Day and 1,981 turned out for in-person voting between May 26 and June 1.
The game plan here is to dump the incremental results from the county clerk into a shared Google Sheet. Final unofficial results are not expected on June 2. It’s not clear if any incremental results will be available, but if they are, here’s where The Square Beacon will post them.
Updated at 8:37 p.m on June 2. The county election board has recessed and will resume tomorrow at 8 a.m. According to Monroe County clerk Nicole Browne, no preliminary counts will be done tonight, and they’re wrapping up now so that everybody can be fresh in the morning. The added benefit is that any partial preliminary results won’t tease the public overnight, she said. Counting currently is estimated to be done by around 2 p.m.
Election Central Tuesday night notebook
6/2/2020 19:00:00 Absentee ballot processors were released at 7pm from Election Central—if they want to stay longer they can. But the word on when all the processing will be done is “several hours.” Many ballot processors are staying to finish the precinct they’re currently working on.
6/2/2020 19:54:57 At least four polling sites, including city hall have brought in their ballots to Election Central. No counting yet. In fact, it was just confirmed that all seven polling sites have brought their materials in to Election Central.
6/2/2020 19:59:17 The assessment being done now is whether things might be “in reach” for tonight or if they are clearly out of reach. If clearly out of reach, they’ll break and resume tomorrow. If some things are “in reach” they’ll forge ahead for a while yet tonight.
6/2/2020 20:07:16 “I need a Democrat! Going in the ballot room. Are you a Democrat?” This is the kind of back-and-forth needed to ensure bi-partisan balance for all the counting activities.

Note: The Latin in the headline means something like “the die is cast.” Julius Caesar is supposed to have said it when he led his army across the Rubicon river in Northern Italy. The idea is that the things that just happened can’t be undone. It was a tradition of local Ann Arbor attorney David Cahill to post the phrase to local online outlets exactly when polls closed in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It’s a good tradition, one which The Beacon transplants to Bloomington without apology.
