Attempted murder suspect arrested by Bloomington police for June 16, 2023 south side shooting
A suspect in a Friday night shooting (June 16) on South Madison Street on the south side of the city, has been arrested, according to a news release from Bloomington police.
According to the news release, 47-year old Bloomington resident Quentin R. Farmer, Sr. was arrested around 9 p.m. Saturday. The Monroe County jail bookings report shows he was booked into jail around 1 a.m. Sunday with bond set for $250,000.
The victim in the Friday night shooting was given emergency aid by officers on the 100 block of Willow Court—a location about a mile south of the shooting scene. The 34-year-old man was transported to an area hospital, where he underwent surgery, after which he was described as in stable condition, according to the news release.
Based on information in the news release, the victim arrived in a vehicle sometime before 10 p.m. at the Madison Street location, where an argument took place between the victim and Farmer. According to the news release, witnesses said Farmer took a handgun from his waistband and started shooting at the victim. After falling backwards, the victim was able to get into his vehicle, screaming that he’d been shot, and drove off—to the Willow Court location, where he was found by officers lying in a driveway.
The news release says that officers found a total of eight spent 9mm shell casings near the intersection of South Madison Street and West Watson Street.
Farmer had fled from the shooting scene and was not located by officers on Friday night, according to the news release.
The next night, around 9 p.m. on Saturday, a BPD sergeant on patrol in the area of the South Madison Street location saw Farmer in a driveway talking to other people. Based on the arrest warrant that had been issued, the sergeant took Farmer into custody without incident, according to the news release.
After Farmer was interviewed at the BPD station, the news release says he was taken to the Monroe County jail and books on the following charges: Attempted Murder (Level 1 felony); Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 felony); and Criminal Recklessness (Level 5 felony).
