There is a tower of scaffolding under the corner of the steel skeleton that is being erected for the convention center expansion, with wooden blocking to support the corner where the beams come together. At the most recent CIB meeting the explanation was: It’s a precautionary measure to deal with a 30-foot cantilever, which needs some extra support until all the elements in place and can form a complete structural system.
