Outcome: Andrew Guenther won the District 2 Republican Party primary with 34 votes. [Full results here]
Andrew Guenther is running unopposed in the May 7, 2019 Republican Party primary for a four-year term on the Bloomington Common Council representing District 2. In the Nov. 5 general election he’ll face the winner of a 3-way Democratic Party primary. Those candidates are Daniel Bingham, Dorothy Granger and Sue Sgambelluri.
District 2 covers portions of Bloomington’s north and northwest sides. (Click here for a map of city districts.)
According to his campaign website, Guenther’s priorities include: 1) community health and safety; 2) public maintenance and accessibility; 3) sustainable economic growth; and 4) affordable high-quality housing. He lists specific action items in each of these categories.
Guenther is chair of the city’s Environmental Commission, a mayoral appointment for a term ending Jan. 31, 2020. He previously served on the city’s Board of Housing Quality Appeals and on the Monroe County Environmental Commission.
Originally from Valparaiso, Guenther has lived in Bloomington since 2013, when he came to attend Indiana University. In 2018 he earned a bachelor’s degree in law and public policy from IU’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
Guenther is serving as his own campaign treasurer and chair.
