On Friday (June 13) afternoon, a head-on collision on State Road 46 at Stinesville Road left one motorist dead and another seriously injured, according to a news release from the Monroe County sheriff's office.

On Friday (June 13) afternoon, a head-on collision on State Road 46 at Stinesville Road left one motorist dead and another seriously injured, according to a news release from the Monroe County sheriff's office.

The call about the crash came in at 5:18 p.m. according to the news release. One of the drivers, from Spencer, was found dead at the scene. The other driver, also from Spencer, is named in the news release as Cindy Bentley, suffered serious injuries. She had to be extracted from the vehicle.

Bentley was flown from the scene by helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, according to the release. As of 7:55 p.m., the scene was still being cleaned up and deputies were directing traffic around the rescue efforts and crash reconstruction. [Updated at 9:36 p.m. on June 13, 2025: According to a subsequent news release from the Monroe County sheriff's office Bentley died of her injuries. The second news release also notes that she was from Gosport, not Spencer.]

The Monroe County coroner's office is working to notify next of kin. The crash is still being investigated by the Monroe County sheriff's office. The news release lists several assisting agencies: Ellettsville Police Department, Ellettsville Fire Department, Bean Blossom Township/Stinesville Fire Department, IU Health Lifeline, Owen County EMS, and the Monroe County coroner's office.
