Deadline to apply for Monroe County Citizens’ Academy: Feb. 4

The Monroe County Citizens’ Academy – a free series of classes to learn about county services and operations – starts Feb. 7. The deadline to apply is Monday, Feb. 4.

Participants will meet with Monroe County staff and elected officials to get a deeper understanding about how local government works. The course, offered by Purdue University’s Monroe County Extension, meets each Thursday through April 4 from 6-9 p.m.
Later in the year, the City of Bloomington will offer a similar Citizens’ Academy focused on city government. Those classes also meet on Thursday evenings but for a shorter period – from 6-8 p.m. The Bloomington academy runs from Aug. 29 through Oct. 24. Click here to apply online.
Interested in local law enforcement? The Bloomington Police Department has two options: the Citizens’ Police Academy, which starts in the fall, and the Teen Academy, a summer program. Details here.
