Final 2 days of early in-person voting in Monroe County: Saturday, Monday

Final 2 days of early in-person voting in Monroe County: Saturday, Monday

With two days of in-person early voting left, around 3,800 Monroe County residents have cast an in-person ballot in the May 7 primary election.

That’s based on the day-by-day tallies of voter numbers posted on the wall of the election operations building (aka the old NAPA Auto Parts Store) at 3rd and Walnut streets and a partial total through the day on Friday (May 3).

The election operations buiding is the one designated location for all in-person voting in  Monroe County.

Two days are left on the early-voting calendar: Saturday (May 4) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Monday (May 6) from 8 a.m. to noon.

Local offices at stake include two Monroe County commissioner seats and  three at-large Monroe County councilor seats.

There are more than 91,000 registered voters in Monroe County.

For the primary elections in 2022, the in-person early voting turnout for the Democrats was around 2,600. For the Republicans, it was around 750. That made the total in-person early vote for 2022 about 3,350.

If on each of the remaining two days, around 400 people vote, this year’s in-person early voting total could hit around 4,600, Given the historical pattern of heavier turnout on those final two days, despite the constrained hours, 400 would be a realistic number.

Even though voting turnout this year is outpacing the early voting turnout of 2022, it’s probably not as big as in 2016. In 2016, the total of mailed-in absentee ballots and in-person early voting was around 10,700 people.

Voters who want to preview their ballot or check the location where they should vote on Election Day (May 7), can check the Indiana Voter Portal. Some background on candidates, including links to their websites, can be found on the League of Women Voters Vote411 profiles.
