From the downtown Bloomington hawks: Happy Mother's Day!

At the southeast corner of College Avenue and 6th Street in downtown Bloomington, in the shadow of the historic Monroe County courthouse dome, stands an eastern white pine tree (Pinus strobus).
In the upper boughs of the tree is a nest where a pair of red-tailed hawks are now raising (at least) two hatchlings. Last year and the year before they nested in a sycamore tree above Bryan Hall on the Indiana University campus.
For today, readers should be spared the long origin story of The B Square's fondness for the red-tailed hawks of downtown Bloomington—because today is Mother's Day.
So let's just say: To all the moms out there—winged or otherwise—who are keeping kiddos warm and fed, keeping it loud when it's time to cheer, keeping it quiet when the neighbors are napping, keeping it cool even under pressure, keeping it covered when the rain is pouring down, keeping it safe in times of danger, keeping it soft when the world feels hard, keeping it light when the world feels heavy, keeping it all together when the world is falling apart, just keeping watch, and keeping it real...we see you.
Happy Mother’s Day!
