Incumbent Monroe County councilors issue joint press release: They’re seeking re-election in 2020

In a joint press release issued Friday morning, the three incumbent at-large county council representatives for Monroe County announced they’re all seeking re-election.

Trent Deckard, Geoff McKim and Cheryl Munson are half of a six-member Democratic Party majority on the seven-member council, which is the fiscal body for the county. The only Republican Party member on the council is Marty Hawk.

The four seats not up for election this year, which represent geographic districts of the county, are held by Hawk, Peter Iversen, Eric Spoonmore and Kate Wiltz.

The county council is a different group from the three-member board of county commissioners, which counts as the executive branch of county government.

Candidates can’t file a declaration of candidacy with the Monroe County election office until Jan. 8, 2020.

The Beacon will keep track of candidacy announcements and filings on a stand-alone page called 2020 Monroe County Indiana Primaries.
