Jail construction timeline presented to Monroe County councilors

A preliminary schedule for the construction of the new Monroe County jail, at the North Park location, was presented on Tuesday (Feb. 25) at the Monroe County council’s regular meeting.

Giving the presentation was DLZ Corporation’s Scott Carnegie.

DLZ is the design/build consultant for the project. WGS is construction manager for the project. The letters in the acronym come from three different construction companies who are working as a kind of joint venture–Weddle Bros. Building Group, Garmong Construction, and Smoot Construction. 2024-04-17 Predesign justice facility programming starts.
2024-07-22 Predesign sheriff's office and jail facility programming starts.
2024-08 Phase II environmental study completed at North Park site.
2024-10-08 Jail local income tax enacted by county council at rate of 0.17 percent.
2024-11 Survey completed at North Park site, DLZ to forward to the Monroe County.
2024-11-12 Purchase agreement completed. DLZ forwards predesign documents (consisting of programming, conceptual design and master planning) to WGS for cost estimating.
2025-01-30 Predesign (consisting of programming, conceptual design and master planning) and cost estimate is presented to county officials by DLZ/WGS.

2025-02 Closing on North Park site. Property purchased.
2025-02-27 County Commissioners approve predesign and authorize DLZ/WGS to commence the schematic design phase.
2025-04-30 DLZ forwards schematic design documents to WGS for cost estimating.
2025-05-29 Schematic design and cost estimates are presented to county officials by DLZ/WGS. County commissioners approve schematic design and authorize DLZ/WGS to start the design development phase.
2025-08 Begin bonding process.
2025-08-27 DLZ forwards design development documents to WGS for cost estimating.
2025-09-25 Design development and cost estimate are presented to county officials by DLZ/WGS. County commissioners approve design development and authorize DLZ/WGS to start the construction document phase.

2026-02-25 DLZ forwards construction documents to WGS for cost estimating.
2026-03-26 Construction documents and cost estimate are presented to county officials by DLZ/WGS. County commissioners approve construction documents and authorize DLZ/WGS to start the bidding phase.
2026-05 Receive bids.
2026-05 Close on bonds. After closing, issue notice to proceed to contractors.
2026-07 Begin construction.
