On Wednesday (July 9) the Monroe County sheriff’s office announced arrests in two separate cases—one a shooting in mid-June and another involving a stolen trailer that was found on Tuesday.
The shooting took place on June 18, 2025 in the 4600 block of College Drive. On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office announced in a news release that deputies had arrested Jerry L. Jackson (36) and booked him into jail on charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery.
Jackson is described in Wednesdaya's news release as “transient,” which for the Monroe County sheriff’s office means he has no known permanent address. In June, the two victims were treated and released at the hospital according to the news release.
According to the news release, Jackson was arrested with the help of the Bloomington Police Department/Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT).
About the incident involving the stolen trailer, the sheriff’s Wednesday news release said that on Tuesday around at 8:25 p.m. a stolen trailer being towed by utility truck was found near the intersection of West 3rd Street and South Liberty Drive.
Deputies spoke with the two men in the vehicle. They deduced that the trailer had been reported stolen out of Kentucky and that one of the men had a nationwide-extradition warrant for felony weapon charges, originating in Alabama.
While searching the man wanted in Alabama, deputies found about 26 grams of suspected methamphetamine on him. According to the news release, Brad Blakely (33) from Gadsden, Alabama was arrested and booked into the Monroe County jail on a charge of methamphetamine possession.
According to the news release, deputies then had probable cause to search inside the truck that was pulling the stolen trailer. During the search of the vehicle found another bag of suspected methamphetamine, with about 112 grams of methamphetamine. According to the news release, the second man, Austin Martin (30) of Indianapolis, was also arrested and booked into the Monroe County jail on a charge of methamphetamine possession.
