Monroe County sheriff’s office: Saturday fireworks death appears accidental
According to a news release from the Monroe County sheriff’s department, a man died late Saturday night (July 5) in a fireworks-related incident. Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report about the incident in the 7000 block of W. Tabor Hill Road.

According to the release, around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday sheriff’s deputies responded to a report about the incident in the 7000 block of W. Tabor Hill Road. That’s near Stinesville, in the northwest part of Monroe County.

The news release says that Tyler Pinkley (23) was found with traumatic injuries that witnesses said he received while he was handling fireworks. The Monroe County’s coroner’s office pronounced him dead at the scene. The news release indicates that Pinkley’s friends tried, but were not able to stop him from trying to perform a dangerous act.
The news release says the “initial investigation suggests the incident was accidental.”
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, in 2024, there were 11 reported fireworks-related deaths in the U.S.—most of them involving the misuse or misfire of a device.
