North Showers now hub for election services in Monroe County, voter reg deadline April 5
Starting Feb. 9, Monroe County voter registration and Election Central moved to the second floor of the North Showers building after flooding forced an early exit from the old Johnson’s Hardware. The temporary site handles registration, absentee ballots and filings ahead of the May 5 primary.

Starting Monday (Feb. 9), Monroe County voter registration, including all Election Central functions, started operating at a new and different location—on the second floor of the North Showers building on Morton Street.
North Showers is a two-block walk north from the former location at 7th and Madison streets in the old Johnson’s Hardware building.
The move came after last Friday’s noon deadline for candidate filings.
Tasks that people can complete at the office include: registering to vote; getting questions answered, like where their polling location is; dropping off absentee ballots in person; filing an application to receive an absentee ballot by mail; and applying for a travel board ballot.
It’s also where candidates can file their papers to withdraw or someone can file the paperwork to challenge a candidate—but the deadlines for that paperwork expire at noon on Friday (Feb. 13).
The deadline for registering to vote in the May 5, 2026 primary is April 5. It’s also possible to register to vote online through indianavoters.in.gov.
The change of site to Showers North had been planned—but not this soon and not to the second floor of the North Showers location. The second floor accommodations are only temporary.
The early exit from the building at 7th and Madison was due to a water heater failure, which flooded the portion of the old Johnson’s Hardware building that housed the county’s probation department. The probation department is moving to the space inside the building that housed the voter registration operation.
The temporary home for voter registration is in the same building, North Showers, where its eventual permanent home is supposed to be—as a part of the renovation and remodeling project on the first floor to create a space for early in-person voting. Strauser Construction Company is looking to complete that project in time for the start of early voting on April 7.
The early in-person voting space was planned as the first phase of the construction project. That’s because the space used for early in-person voting in the past few election cycles no longer exists. The former NAPA Auto Parts store at 3rd and Walnut streets was demolished to make way for the convention center expansion.
The move for voter registration and Election Central was originally planned to take place after the primary election on May 5. The water heater failure at the old Johnson’s Hardware building threw a monkey wrench into the timeline, which means county election supervisor Kylie Farris and her staff will be moving twice in the course of a few months.
Even if you don’t need voter registration services for this cycle, if you plan to vote early in person this year, it’s worth getting familiar with the North Showers location.
Here’s some video documentation for finding Farris and her staff, once you arrive at the North Showers building. The location inside the building is temporary.
