Photos: 2024 Veterans Day flag raising on Indiana University Bloomington campus












On Monday morning, a traditional Veterans Day flag raising ceremony took place on Indiana University’s Bloomington Campus, under clear skies and a temperature of about 42 F degrees.
Delivering remarks was Lieutenant Colonel Stephanie Baugh, who is an army foreign area officer serving as the current US Army War College, strategic Russian and East European Fellow at Indiana University’s Hamilton-Lugar School of Global and International Studies.
Baugh wrapped up with a definition of a veteran: “A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America for an amount up to and including their life. Lest we forget.” She added: “Thank you. Go Hoosiers!”
Starting the ceremony was John Summerlot, John Summerlot, who is director of the Bloomington division of IU Emergency Management and Continuity, former director of the IU Center for Veteran and Military Studies and a Marine Corps and Army veteran.
