Saturday northside shooting: Bloomington police arrest suspect
Bloomington police have arrested Sean Rivers, a 22-year-old Bloomington man, as a suspect in a Saturday afternoon shooting.
The shooting left the 51-year-old victim in critical condition after several emergency surgeries, according to the BPD news release.
Rivers was booked into the Monroe County jail on a charge of attempted murder, according to the release.
The news release says the shooting took place outside the Subway restaurant on Kinser Pike, north of the SR 46 bypass.
When they responded to a call around 1:25 p.m. on Saturday (July 15, 2023), officers found the victim, who had been shot in the chest, outside the restaurant near the dumpsters, according to the news release.
According to the news release, officers learned that the suspect, Sean Rivers, was an employee at the restaurant. According to the news release, Rivers and the victim got into an argument—based on where the victim had parked his vehicle.
According to the news release, the victim walked out of the restaurant. Witnesses saw Rivers also leave the restaurant, walking towards the area where they last saw the victim.
A short while after that, witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot, then saw Rivers come back into the restaurant, where he gathered his things and left the store on foot.
Rivers was located by police at 1:55 p.m. at a residence in the 500 block of W Northlane Drive, according to the release. That’s about a half mile south of the restaurant. Rivers was arrested without incident, according to the release.
