Signs have appeared promoting the condominium units to be constructed on the surface parking lot next to the CVS. That‘s a literal sign of progress—ground was hoped to be broken in in the spring, but Duke Energy needs to do some work to move power lines.

The Monroe County health building has guardrails installed around the edge of the roof. It looks like it’s probably related to roof repair work, but that’s not certain. The answer is probably in the minutes of a board of county commissioners meeting.

It’s common to see demonstrators on the southeast corner of the courthouse, but not very common to see someone on a Sunday afternoon. This man, wearing a hockey mask, is holding a sign that reads, “Jesus says defend the weak, not the strong.”

A red-tailed hawk perched on the steeple of the First Presbyterian Church takes a short flight to a tree on the same property, perches for only a minute, then continues on its way.

The sign says that some of the planters around the Kirkwood Avenue area will be replaced with tree plots. According to the city’s urban forester, Haskell Smith, the new tree plots are basically those that have signs. No demolition of the existing concrete is supposed to be needed.
