On Friday night, Bloomington South improved its record to 2–0 with a 38–27 home win against Martinsville. Martinsville came out strong, starting the game with a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. It took a late-game interception to stop a Martinsville drive to seal the victory for the Panthers.

Friday’s 38-0 score in favor of the Edgewood Mustangs in their home opener against the Mitchell Bluejackets could have been even more lopsided. That's if the team had not committed some penalties and done a better job giving its quarterback time to find receivers down the field.

The Bloomington High School North Cougars were outscored 28–14 by the visiting Mooresville Pioneers in their first game of the season.

Bloomington High School South produced almost 500 yards of offense on Friday and cruised to a 42–7 season-opening win over the visiting Columbus East Olympians in front of full bleachers at Huff Field.

On Friday night, the Edgewood Mustangs tuned up for next week’s home opener against Mitchell with a scrimmage against Indian Creek. Edgewood’s coach Scott Fischer: “I feel pretty good about where we’re at and the direction we’re going. I thought the kids’ energy was pretty good.”

At Bloomington High School South’s Huff Field on Saturday, every touchdown was scored by the Panthers—because it was their annual intrasquad Purple-White scrimmage. It was a good reminder that the start of high school football season is less than two weeks away.
