Updated: Travel WARNING | Bloomington trash pickup, COVID testing and vaccination clinics impacted by snow

[Updated at 5:34 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2021] Monroe County’s emergency management director Allison Moore has issued a statement announcing that the county is now under a travel warning due to the snowy weather conditions.

A warning means that travel is can be restricted to emergency workers only, according to the announcement. During a warning, people are directed to:

(A) refrain from all travel;
(B) comply with necessary emergency measures;
(C) cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans; and
(D) obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.

If your garbage is normally collected by the city of Bloomington on Tuesdays, that schedule will slip on Feb. 16 by at least a day, to Wednesday, Feb. 17, according to a news release from the city.

That’s because of the heavy snow that’s been falling since noon on Monday and the forecast for more snow and cold temperatures in the next few days.

[Updated at 4:39 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2021] The city of Bloomington has announced that garbage pickup has been canceled for the rest of the week. The news release states: “The regular weekly collection schedule is expected to resume on Monday, February 22.”

The Monday afternoon news release from the city of Bloomington says, “At this time, Tuesday’s routes are scheduled for pickup on Wednesday if conditions are deemed safe. That determination will be announced on Tuesday afternoon or evening.”

The impact on the schedule will cascade over to following days, according to the release. Wednesday’s pickups would slide to Thursday, Thursday’s to Friday, and so on.

The news release points residents to the garbage collection scheduling website for the latest status updates. (You’ll need to type in your address to make the web page display the message about revised pickup times.)

COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics were closed on Monday. The announcement of clinic closures, issued on Sunday night by Monroe County’s health department, pointed people to the department’s Facebook page or to call 211 for updates about the status of Tuesday’s appointments.

Vaccine Sites:

• Appointments for the MCHD Convention Center Vaccination Site will be rescheduled, and staff will be contacting individuals in the next 48-72 hours to reschedule appointments. If you need further assistance, call 211.
• If your appointment is with The IU Health Medical Arts COVID-19 Vaccination Site at 619 W. First St in Bloomington or at the 1075 N Sandy Hook Rd. in Paoli, you will receive communication on how to reschedule. If you need further assistance, call 211.

Testing Sites:

• The Community Testing Site on Morton Street will be closed with appointments to be rescheduled.
• Optum at the Armory will be closed with appointments to be rescheduled.
• Please check social media outlets for continuous updates on all of these sites.
• We advise the community to stay indoors and refrain from travel as the conditions are very dangerous.
