Woman dies in Saturday house fire in southern Monroe County
A woman died in a Saturday afternoon house fire near Smithville in southern Monroe County. A 911 call came at 2:51 p.m. for the 7000 block of S. Strain Ridge Road. Firefighters found the woman dead inside. Officials say initial evidence does not indicate foul play.

On Saturday afternoon (March 28), a house fire near Smithville in southern Monroe County claimed the life of a woman whose name has not yet been released.
According to a news release from the Monroe County sheriff’s office, the 911 call was received at 2:51 p.m. on Saturday for the 7000 block of of S. Strain Ridge Road. Firefighters from Monroe Fire Protection District responded to the blaze, where they found a woman dead inside, according to the release.
According to the news release, fire officials say initial evidence does not point to foul play. The final results of the investigation will be come from joint work by fire and sheriff’s office officials.
