The shooting of two people at their home, which took place just south of Bloomington city limits in the early morning hours of Wednesday (June 18), looks like it was a "targeted incident" that does not pose a threat to public safety. That's according to a news release issued by the Monroe County sheriff's office early Thursday afternoon. According to the news release, around 2 a.m. on Wednesday morning, sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call about a shooting in the 4600 block of South College Drive. A 35-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were found at their residence "conscious and alert," but with gunshot wounds.

Both victims were taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, according to the news release. The woman was released a few hours later. The man remained in the hospital. Both are expected to recover, according to the news release.

The news release says that the exact events leading up to the shooting are under investigation. Several neighbors were woken up by the incident and reported seeing at least one person flee the area in a vehicle. According to the news release, the investigation is still underway, and more details will be provided as they become available.
