Polls open for early voting in Monroe County ahead of Nov. 3 election
Early voting for the Nov. 3 election began Tuesday at Monroe County’s North Showers building. About a half-dozen voters waited outside in 42-degree air before the 8 a.m. opening. Clerk Nicole Browne gave the legally required proclamation that the polls were open.

Early voting for the Nov. 3 general election started at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Monroe County’s one early voting location. That’s the county-owned North Showers building at 9th and Morton streets in downtown Bloomington.
Voting got off to a smooth start. Before the doors opened, as the morning sky was just starting to brighten, a half-dozen early voters were already waiting in the 42-degree air.
At 8 o’clock sharp, Monroe County clerk Nicole Browne opened the doors to the North Showers building and gave the customary announcement that the polls were open: “Hear ye, hear ye, the polls are now open!”
The announcement is not just for fun. It’s a requirement of state election law, which says the announcement about the start of voting must be made “in a loud tone of voice” to “the people outside the polls.”
To keep track of the voting pace, Monroe County’s GIS division has set up a dashboard. It will be updated every evening after the day’s voting activity.
Early Voting Schedule
Early in-person voting takes place in the North Showers Building on Morton Street.
