Predicted storm causes cancellation of MCCSC school board vacancy interviews

All after-school activities and meetings for Wednesday (April 2) have been cancelled by Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC), the district announced on its website. But schools were to be dismissed for the day at their regular times.
The reason for the cancellation is the forecasted severe weather, which includes floods, thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes.
Included in the cancellation are the planned public interviews of candidates for the District 7 board seat, which was left vacant when Brandon Shurr resigned. The remaining six board members were scheduled to convene a work session at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, when the candidates would be interviewed. The board had also scheduled an executive session to discuss applications of prospective appointees.
The cancellation of the executive session and the working session was confirmed to the B Square by Karen Butcher, who is the executive assistant to the board and the superintendent.
The interviews will be rescheduled, but the date and time have not yet been determined, Butcher told The B Square. She was trying to reach out to candidates to let them know that the meeting later today had been cancelled.
The board is working to name a replacement within a 30-day time window that started when Shurr submitted his resignation to the Monroe County clerk, on March 14.
[Added at 3:17 p.m. on April 2, 2025: Also cancelled for today, presumably related to the predicted severe weather, was the 5 p.m. meeting of the Monroe County vote center study committee.]
