Seven hospitalized after shooting in Bloomington near IU campus following football victory
At least seven people were wounded in a shooting on Kirkwood Avenue in downtown Bloomington around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, hours after IU's homecoming football victory. Police chased and caught a man near Dunn Meadow, but have not determined if he fired the shots. No deaths were reported.

An early-morning shooting on Kirkwood Avenue in downtown Bloomington Sunday (Nov. 1) has left at least seven people wounded, but with no reported fatalities, according to a news release from Bloomington police.

The shooting took place in the block of Kirkwood between Grant Street on the west and Dunn Street on the east. It’s the block just west of Dunn Street, bounded by People’s Park. That’s two blocks west of the Indiana University campus.
The shots were fired around 1:30 a.m., according to the release. That’s about six hours after the end of the university’s homecoming football game, which IU won in overtime.
Around 1:30 a.m., several city and university police officers were already near the area between Grant and Dunn along Kirkwood, so they could monitor a large crowd that had gathered, according to the release. Officers then heard several gunshots and converged on the specific area.
A man with a gun was seen running northeast from the area of the gunshots and
officers chased him. They caught him east of Indiana Avenue near Dunn Meadow. A gun was located nearby. The release says it is currently unknown if the suspect was the person who fired the shots.
Several people were located in the downtown area with wounds thought to have been from the shooting. According to the release, several shell casings of different calibers were located on the sidewalk area near 420 Kirkwood, which is the street address of Chipotle Mexican Grill. A total of seven people were taken by ambulance to area hospitals.
It’s possible there are more victims, according to the release, but no fatalities have been reported.
The release says preliminary information indicates that there was some sort of disturbance in the large crowd of people on Kirkwood Avenue just before the shooting.
