According to a Wednesday afternoon news release from the Monroe County sheriff's office, a silver hatchback was stopped and all four people detained on the west side of Bloomington—after several reports came in about a vehicle with occupants who were waving a gun at bystanders.
During the stop, a black Glock-branded CO2-powered handgun was found.
According to the news release, all four occupants—the adult driver and three juveniles—were referred to the Monroe County prosecutor for charges, and the investigation is still underway. The sheriff's office is asking people who were victimized by the occupants of the silver hatchback in the photo accompanying the release, to call the Monroe County sheriff's office at 812-349-2781.
Reports about people in a car waving a gun started coming in before noon on Wednesday (April 30). Locations described in the news release included the 8900 block of West Reeves Road, the Crane Federal Credit Union on Jonathan Drive, and the Lowes on Gates Drive.
After Bloomington police and the sheriff's deputies were out trying to locate the car, more reports came in—from West 3rd Street and Patterson Drive, and from the Indiana University Campus, on East Atwater Avenue near the IU school of Optometry.
Finally sheriff's deputies spotted the car driving past the Bloomington city police department building on 3rd Street. The stop was made at West 3rd Street and Cory Lane.
The road was closed for the stop, but reopened seven minutes later, according to the news release.
