Monroe County’s justice center will remain closed at least through Wednesday after a sewer backup last Friday sent wastewater from the jail into offices below. Courts and related offices are shut down while crews remove damaged carpet and drywall, sanitize and dry the building.

Monroe County’s justice building will be closed Monday (July 27) after an apparent sewage backup on Friday sent water through office ceilings. Court administration and at least one judge’s office were affected. The jail lost water service while cleanup crews worked at the building.

On Thursday, Bloomington police removed unauthorized occupants from Seminary Pointe, where plywood was fastened over doors and windows after reports of break-ins and drug use. The mostly vacant, very low-rent apartments are slated for demolition to make way for a convention center host hotel.

An 85-year-old Bloomington man was killed Thursday morning when police say his SUV turned into the path of a box truck on SR 45/46 near I-69. The truck driver was taken to a hospital and voluntarily submitted to a blood draw. Bloomington police are investigating.

Bloomington police are investigating a June 23 shooting in the 1000 block of North Summit Street, where a known male suspect allegedly fired 7–8 rounds into a white GMC SUV. Three adults and four children were inside; no injuries were reported.

Bloomington police arrested two men on Monday in connection with shots fired June 3 inside an apartment on West Hays Court. No injuries were reported, but officers found bullet holes in the victim’s apartment and neighboring units.
