Names released: Candidates to fill vacant MCCSC board seat to be interviewed April 10
Four candidates will be considered by the Monroe County Community School Corporation board to fill the vacancy that was left when Brandon Shurr resigned. The four names are:
- Aja Jester
- Blake Garland-Tirado
- Gabriel Holbrow
- Cori Thornton Hammock
That's according to board president April Hennessey. The interviews that were to be held this past week were canceled due to the storm.
The interviews are now planned to be next Thursday, April 10, at the same time as last week. Last week's work session was noticed to start at 5:30 p.m.
According to Hennessey, six candidates applied, but only four live inside the geographic area of District 7, which corresponds to the vacant seat.
There does not appear to be a new meeting posted on the MCCSC website, yet. But under Indiana's Open Door Law (ODL), the district has up to 48 hours before its scheduled start to give notice of a meeting that is not on the annual calendar.
Previously, the board had an executive session scheduled on the same day of the interviews. Executive sessions are closed to the public. Reviewing applications to fill a vacancy for a "public official" is on the list of allowable reasons for an executive session under the ODL.
